It looks like this functionality isn’t available after reading the docs. Have I missed something, or - is there another way to register a UK company programatically?

You can’t form companies through the API (yet, it’s supposed to be coming, but I wouldn’t expect it for a while). Currently you can incorporate through the XML gateway. Try:
