Unable to open PDF Files with the new Microsoft Edge

Hi, just had the new Microsoft Edge downloaded but cannot seem to be able to view or print any PDF files from the Companies House Website using the now default PDF Browser that accompanies the release (Adobe Acrobat no longer supported on the new Microsoft Edge). I thought it was the computer at first but its only Companies House I’m having this issue with as I can still open on the HMRC website. Please can you offer any advice as I use the open PDF file nearly every day for information purposes. Thanks

(I’m just some guy not CH) I just tried using Microsoft Edge 38.14393.1066.0 / Win 10 Home 14393.1358 - it seems to work for me (trying several different documents). For example I accessed the CH Beta site and tried as an example:

Company number SC294759, filing history entry for 21 Jul 2015 (accounts):

https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC294759/filing-history/MzEyNzQzMTY5OWFkaXF6a2N4/document?format=pdf&download=0

This will open something like (may change for different accesses?):

That PDF opens OK in Edge.

Edge settings are: don’t block cookies, block popups. IE is apparently not using plug-ins for PDFs etc. I’m behind a firewall.

There has been a particular issue (corrupt XREF block) with particular PDF files but there was a fix for that quite some time ago. Someone did query that a while later however so maybe have a look at those investigations to start:

I have the same problem since Microsoft Edge 40.15063.0.0 was installed as an update on 15 June. I suspect that the problem will lie with Microsoft but could be proved wrong.

Hi,

Thanks for letting us know. We’ve reproduced the same problem here on Microsoft Edge 40.15063.0.0 and are investigating.

We’ll keep you posted.

Thanks,
Toby

This is a confirmed issue with Microsoft Edge and files stored on Amazon S3. You can see more about it here:

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/12166637/

If you turn off Windows Defender SmartScreen in Edge it should solve the issue.

Back then there were lots of issues with viewing PDF documents through Edge. There is still something about a dozen of them, but they’re fixing it step by step. So there’s no issue on the CH’s side, just think it would be better to avoid working with this extension with Edge  Or to use some online tool instead of a basic viewer in order to not have problems with such purposes, I usually use this one https://edit-pdf.pdffiller.com/ It’s an editing application with no doubts but works as well for just opening and viewing PDF documents
